CONTRAINDICATIONS FOR

IMPLANT TREATMENT

Certain medical and dental conditions may make dental implants unsuitable for some people.  Implants maynot be suitable for the following common reasons:

  • Smoking

  • Unstable gum disease

  • Patients taking some medications for osteoporosis

  • Patients taking or have taken Bisphosphonate medicines (e.g. Alendronate)

  • Diabetic patients

  • Where the other teeth are mobile or moving

  • Where the adjacent teeth have dental infections which may spread to the implant during healing

  • Bleeding disorders

  • Medical conditions causing poor healing

  • Previous chemotherapy and radiotherapy

  • Poor oral hygiene

  • A low motivation to care for teeth, as implants require maintenance.
